Need some ideas for a Mother’s Day gift that you can make? Here I’ve listed 5 great gifts that Mom, or even Grandma or your wife, will love! These projects are simple to do and won’t cost you a ton of $$$.

Don’t forget to take a peek at my post on 15 Gift Ideas for Mothers Day as well! 🙂

mugs

What you will need:

  • Mug from Dollar Tree
  • Sharpie paint markers – oil based (I used these and these)
  • Stencil (optional)
  • Oven

Directions:

  1. With your sharpie marker, make any design/lettering on your white mug. You can do it free-hand or use a stencil. I cut out a printed picture of the bear on card stock, then traced it onto the cup. My niece made the other 2 cups.
  2. Put the mug on a cookie sheet and set in the oven. –Note: Do not preheat your oven!
  3. Set your oven temperature to 250°. Keep in oven for a total of 2 hours from the time it reaches the set temperature!
  4. Once the time is up, turn off oven, but keep the mug in the oven to gradually cool down. Taking the mug out right away could possibly cause it to crack from the instant temperature change.
  5. I waited about 2 hours before taking out the mug.
I would recommend hand washing, but others have said that using the dishwasher would be fine. I do not own a dishwasher, so I am unable to test it for myself.

plate

What you will need:

  • Plate from Dollar Tree
  • Sharpie paint markers – same as above
  • Stencil (optional)
  • Photo stand (optional)
  • Oven

Directions:

  1. These are the same directions as above for the mug.

I had Michael draw all around a plate with the paint markers and let it dry. Once it dried, I put it in the oven. I let it stay in the oven about 4 hours to cool down.

mom pop-out card

You can print your ‘MOM’ card over at one dog woof. If you do not have a silhouette cutting machine, like myself,, there is also pdf and svg files to download.

I printed the download on regular printer paper, but card stock would work great as well.

You can add a note and some designs or pictures for a more personal touch!

clay ring holder

What you will need:

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 250°.
  2. Take your clay pieces and roll them out.
  3. Twist and fold them around each other.
  4. Take a rolling pin (or cup) and roll clay flat.
  5. Place bowl upside down on top of rolled out clay and trim around the edge of the bowl. I got creative and used aluminum foil instead of a bowl, but I would recommend a bowl because it doesn’t come out as pretty. Haha!
  6. Take clay and place inside of the oven safe bowl.
  7. Place in oven and bake for 15 minutes. (unless directions on your polymer clay package state differently)
  8. Let clay cool.
  9. Color the edge of the clay bowl with the silver or gold paint pen if you would like.
  10. Another option is to add varnish to give it a nice shine like I did.
