Cutout Deer Canvas

I initially was going to do a tree canvas, but I wanted to do something for the holidays coming up and started my search for an image that I could easily do. I jumped on this image, as it’s one of my favorites, and it’s so simple and easy to cut out on the canvas.

What you’ll need…

I used a size 6 x 8 canvas, and printed my image as 5 x 7.

I held it up to the light and traced the outline of the image.

Also, even if you’re able to see the outline on the front of the canvas, lay it face flat down and cut it from the back. I personally believe it is easier to cut this way. Just make sure there is something underneath that you don’t mind getting cut up.

Paint your cutout (don’t forget the edges) of the canvas, with your chosen color(s), or leave it white.

Once your canvas has dried, if painted, you can then add any decorative paper behind the image. You can use any print you’d like for the background image and use that. I opted for this Buffalo plaid wrapping paper.

At first I painted my canvas black, but I liked it better white, so I re-painted them, except the edges.

Another great idea is to place LED lighting behind the canvas. Let me know in the comments below if you have tried a canvas cutout and how it turned out. Any other tips or tricks to share?
